6 Months of OpusDNS: Why It Was Time to Rethink the Domain Industry

Adrian Schiefele, Brand Manager bei OpusDNS

If our migrations have proven one thing, it is how much can be moved in a very short amount of time. This also applies to our first half-year as six months have passed since we launched OpusDNS in October 2025 with a clear mission. We wanted to put an end to manual processes and rigid infrastructures that feel like they belong in the early 2000s. Our goal was to prove that the industry is ready for an API-first approach. Today, a look in the rearview mirror shows that the demand for true automation is even greater than expected.

What has actually happened during this time? Have we achieved our goals and what is on the agenda for the coming months? Here is a look back at the first six months of a company that does not just question the status quo but actively redefines it.

OpusDNS in Facts & Figures

Before we dive into our completed roadmap and technical milestones, let us look at the raw facts. Our balance sheet after six months proves how quickly a modern API-first architecture is accepted by the market and that our approach hits the mark. These metrics are far more than mere statistics for us because they document both the technical resilience of our systems and the immense trust our partners place in us:

  • Over 350 active partners: From specialized resellers to large-scale registrars, companies worldwide are already utilizing our dashboard.
  • Over 200,000 domains under management: We surpassed the six-figure mark only a few weeks after our launch. This serves as a testament that the market is ready for a transition to more modern systems.
  • Over 550 TLDs: Since our launch, we have already integrated over 550 TLDs.
  • More than 850,000 domain forwardings (incl. SSL): We deployed this massive volume of redirects including automated certificates within just 12 hours.
  • 5 billion DNS queries with 100% uptime: Despite massive query loads, our network remained online every single second. We deliver the performance that forms the backbone of your business.
  • #1 in Growth & Acquisition: According to the ShareShift Report Q1/2026, OpusDNS ranks first across the industry in both the "Acquisition Index" (10.8x) and "Growth Velocity" (500x) among EU operators.
  • 60% migration share: The majority of our volume results from existing portfolios migrating to OpusDNS. With our team and technical infrastructure, we execute even highly complex transfers of large portfolios seamlessly.
  • Over 1,100 expert interactions: We recorded 1,127 individual expert discussions at our booth during CloudFest 2026 alone.
  • High engagement: With an average dwell time of 15.5 minutes at our booth, we demonstrate that the need for deep technical exchange in the industry is enormous.

What we built in 6 months

On the technical side, we did not simply work through a checklist but instead sharpened our roadmap based on customer feedback from calls and trade fair discussions. Our focus remained consistently on the question of how we can simplify your daily work with domains. Here is our answer to that question:

WHMCS Plugin

Shortly after our launch, we introduced our own OpusDNS WHMCS plugin and closed the gap between billing and technology. This means a massive time saving for our partners because as soon as a customer pays, we activate the domain in seconds without any manual intervention required from your side. The module allows you full control over DNS zones, nameservers, and DNSSEC directly within your WHMCS environment. With over 30 templates for services like Microsoft 365 or Shopify and an intelligent suggestion engine for domain names, we offer you a tool that goes far beyond simple registration.

Domain & Email Forwards

Complementing the automation of sales and billing processes, simplifying the technical infrastructure was high on our agenda. We wanted to end the effort of operating a dedicated and maintenance-intensive server environment for every simple redirect or email address.

Today, we make the operation of your own infrastructure for simple redirects completely obsolete. Our zero-config engine handles HTTPS routing including automatic TLS 1.3 certificates and achieves a Qualys "A" rating. Migrations or rebrandings can thus be implemented without manual Nginx configurations. In parallel, we strictly separate the domain identity from mailbox hosting and enable you to create professional email aliases. We forward these to your existing inbox in under five seconds. Thanks to real-time logs and SMTP error codes, you maintain full transparency over every single message at all times.

Domain Parking

As traditional advertising models for domains increasingly disappear from the market, we have reacted and developed a solution that makes unused portfolios profitable again through high-quality content. With our parking solution, we replace outdated link lists with dynamic, AI-generated microsites. Our parking engine analyzes the domain name, determines user intent, and creates contextual content.

This not only ensures relevance but also meets modern provider requirements for RSOC feeds (Related Search for Content). To protect the value of your portfolio in the long term, we utilize SEO-compliant 302 redirects. This allows unused traffic to be monetized without endangering the future ranking potential of the domain.

Partnerships & New Paths

Whether it concerns new partnerships or services, we are constantly in motion to expand our portfolio. We believe a technical foundation is only as strong as the people and companies building upon it. For us at OpusDNS, partnership means more than just an API connection as it is about merging visions and working closely with those who question the status quo of the industry just as we do

WHMCS

Following the completion of our own WHMCS plugin and fueled by our enthusiasm for the product, we wanted to take things a step further and decided on a direct collaboration with the WHMCS team. What began with late-night calls and countless emails across different time zones ended in a partnership for our shared booth at CloudFest 2026. A special thank you goes to WHMCS, whose support as a co-sponsor made our presence possible in this unique form. Without the tireless effort from both sides, this project would not have been such a success. We truly value the trust and the honest exchange throughout the entire preparation period. You can find more details about the highlights in the Arena and the success at the event in the section below.

Ambassador Program

We launched our Ambassador Program late last year because we are convinced that genuine recommendations from experts are the best basis for growth. We look for partners who share our vision and want to actively promote it within their networks. For our ambassadors, this means much more than just a fair commission structure. You receive direct access to our team and sit at the table with us during monthly briefings. This ensures that your practical experience flows directly into our development while you help shape the new standard in domain management as part of an exclusive community.

OpusDNS at Global Events

We noticed that our approach hits a nerve through on-site discussions at Domain Days Dubai, NamesCon in Miami, ICANN in Dublin, and DomainPulse in St. Gallen.

NamesCon Miami

Shortly after our official launch, the city known for dynamics and energy was the ideal location for our "Fast & Direct" approach. NamesCon Global provided us with the perfect stage to prove that domain management does not have to be a bureaucratic burden. Our CEO North America, Robbie Birkner, and COO Marco Hoffmann demonstrated in numerous individual meetings how OpusDNS relieves portfolios of all sizes through consistent automation.

CloudFest 2026

Our home game in Rust was definitely a highlight for us. We wanted to prove that our claim to consistently question and rethink the industry status quo does not stop at software. Therefore, we applied this approach to our trade fair appearance as well. We wanted to offer more than just an information booth and sought real interaction with visitors.

In the OpusDNS Arena, over 150 participants competed against our gladiators. The atmosphere was excellent and the ambition of the challengers was palpable in every fight. Away from the action, the focus was on technology. Over 500 expert discussions showed us that no one is interested in complicated migrations anymore. Our COO Marco Hoffmann put it straight on stage: Anyone still managing domains today without AI support and a focus on NIS2 will lose touch.

The quality of the conversations confirms that we are meeting the current needs as over 310 visitors were identified as "High-Value Attendees." These are decision-makers from the fields of cloud, hosting, and corporate IT who want to end the status quo just like we do. Our thanks also go to our co-sponsor WHMCS, who complemented our appearance perfectly. We can hardly wait to raise the bar even higher for CloudFest 2027.

Looking Ahead: Why the Status Quo is Only the Beginning

Six months of OpusDNS mean six months at maximum speed. While we celebrate what we have achieved, we are already working on the next stage of automation. One project will fundamentally change the way you work with domains.

AI Concierge

The highlight of our roadmap is just around the corner and is set to fundamentally change the way you work with domains. The OpusDNS AI Concierge is not just a simple chatbot, but an autonomous assistant that understands your complex workflows and executes them with precision. Some of you have already experienced it in action at CloudFest.

  • Intelligent Analysis and Control: Our AI Concierge begins with a comprehensive analysis of your domains across various registrars, creating a consolidated overview of your entire portfolio for the first time. This provides you with a central view of all holdings, allowing you to identify redundancies and build a clean, reliable data foundation for strategic decisions. Via our AI Transfer Agent, you simply connect your existing registrars through our dashboard. Integration for most major providers is already prepared. You only need to store your credentials while the technical API integration runs invisibly in the background, so you do not have to worry about a thing.
  • Chat with your Portfolio: Manage both the administration and the targeted consolidation of your domains centrally and as intuitively as a short message. Whether it is bulk updates for nameservers, quick new registrations, or complex migrations: the AI automatically recognizes the relevant segments and executes every process in a structured, transparent, and efficient manner. We are finally making the management of thousands of domains as simple as it was always meant to be.

Conclusion: We are just getting started

Six months into building and operating OpusDNS, one thing stands out above all else: the true value of the company lies in the strength and composition of its team. We have been highly selective in bringing together a group of individuals who not only excel in their respective fields but are also deeply aligned with our vision and pace. From senior developers architecting the core of our platform to students contributing fresh perspectives and energy, and from marketing and sales driving growth to legal and accounting ensuring a solid foundation—every role is essential and interconnected. What makes this team exceptional is not just talent, but commitment: a shared willingness to go above and beyond, to support one another, and to push the company forward with a sense of ownership and pride.

This mentality is the prerequisite for consistently questioning the industry's status quo. After all, we are not just building software; we are building a new way of working together:

"We are not building OpusDNS as a pure registrar, but as a central platform for everyone in the domain business who refuses to compromise on technology and support."
Hakan Ali, CEO Europe

"Reducing complexity has been the goal from day one. Our roadmap for the remainder of 2026 is full of innovations that will finally make daily work with domains as simple as it was always meant to be."
Robbie Birkner, CEO North America

A huge thank you to our entire team for their dedication and to our partners for their honest feedback. Together, we are modernizing the domain industry and look forward to everything that is yet to come.
